GoodBye UB 2010

Now leaving, I realize what a good experience this was. A lot of relationships where made with different people and I learned a lot. Class was interesting too. 

Leaving UB

The time we have been anticipating is days away... OUR DEPARTURE!! We leave a place of value, that we will hopefully use o our advantages to go home and practice. Packing our bags, we metacognize about our findings here. Some are glad to go home to see families and friends, but some are dissapointed. I believe this summer went by faster than the summer before. We will, however, be visiting colleges come next week, a great experience to look forward to. After this, GOODBYE UB 2010.

The Gubernatorial Race between Meg Whitman and Jerry Brown



After contacting both parties, I discovered some of their plans to better California. Meg Whitman’s takes on education is as follows: she wants to direct more money to the classrooms, reward outstanding teachers, eliminate the cap on charter schools, and grade public schools. As governor Meg Whitman will usher in reforms that will collapse the states grant program into a more understandable one. She will also recognize outstanding teacher by rewarding them with bonuses. In favor of charter schools, Meg will utilize them fully to create competition in the public school system. Also, Jerry Brown as governor will: 1. Fight Crime as Attorney General, Brown has cracked down on violent gangs, and worked closely with local police and sheriffs to apprehend dangerous criminals, con artists and major perpetrators of fraud and financial crimes. As California's Chief Law Enforcement Officer, Brown leads a team of special agents and dedicated staffs that conduct criminal investigations, enforce firearms laws and regulations, and manage the state's crime labs, including the third largest DNA database in the world. The California Police Chiefs Association and 50 rank and file police organizations endorsed Brown’s candidacy for Attorney General. 2. Protecting the Environment Brown has long been recognized as a national environmental leader. As Governor, he made California a leader in energy efficiency, solar, geothermal and wind energy. 3. Protecting Consumers Brown has a lifelong record of protecting consumers against unfair business practices. As Governor, Brown passed landmark legislation to force full disclosure of finance and interest charges by credit card companies, allow consumers to purchase generic drugs and created the nation’s first affordable "life-line" utility rates for seniors and needy residential customers. 4. Fighting Fraud and Abuse in California's Health Care System, as Attorney General, Brown has sued medical laboratories for massive overcharges, stopped rip-offs in the Medi-Cal Program, cracked down on unlawful abuse of prescription drugs, fought misleading ad campaigns by major drug companies and arrested nursing home operators for forcibly drugging elderly patients. 5. Fighting Political Corruption Brown has championed reforms since he was first elected as Secretary of State. He forced legislators to comply with campaign disclosure laws and exposed President Nixon's use of falsely notarized documents to improperly earn a large tax deduction.

There is a new female prime minister in Australia? Sounds cool huh? Comment.

the UB experience

Upward Bound, is fun. Its a family. Its an experience. Its life. I like being in the progam, though i get on the tutors' nerves, but I respect them and I know when i can calm down. The program is fun to be in and how we get to experience the college lif. I only have one word to say: APPLY!

SB 1070

In my opinion, the new Arizona Law is something that should NOT be enforced. I believe that it is not right to pull someone over because they look like immigrants, I mean i did not know that illegal immigrants had a look. What is your input?
